"Poe's Shadow"

This is my first installment of my Edgar Allan Poe series. It is meant to portray the scene from Poe's Parable titled "Shadow." The feeling of this piece is heavy, which represents the feeling of those in the room. It is also meant to feel as though there are other people in the room... onlookers, not acting upon the situation of the dead man. To read a PDF of the parable, click HERE.

Close-ups from "Poe's Shadow."

"Poe's Portrait"

Poe's portrait highlights the strange appearance in which embodies Poe. This also highlights a famous line from his memoir: "I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity."

"Poe's Portrait" was drawn with charcoal on 18"x24" 70 lb paper. The quote was drawn on a separate page with Sharpie, then both pages were matted together. This piece is for sale (in person, but not online). Unframed, but matted.

"Poe's Masquerade"

"And now was acknowledged the presence of the Red Death. He had come like a thief in the night."
-Edgar Allan Poe's "Mask of the Red Death"

With this piece, I began experimenting with a Sharpie/ charcoal/ white conte mix. I also attached the jewelery straight through the paper. This piece is 18"x24" The original is currently for sale, but not online sale due to shipping concerns.

"Poe's Amontillado"

"Fortunato!'
"No answer still. I thrust a torch through the remaining aperture and let it fall within. There came forth in return only a jingling of the bells. My heart grew sick; it was the dampness of the catacombs that made it so."

- Edgar Allan Poe's "Cast of Amontillado"

"Poe's Heart"

"Villains!' I shrieked. 'Dissemble no more! I admit the deed! Tear up the planks! Here, here! It is the beating of his hideous heart!"
-Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart"

Inspired by my personal favorite short story by Poe, I created this with pencil (very light), Sharpie, and charcoal. This piece was drawn on 11"x14" 70 lb paper and the original is currently available for in-person sale (unframed and unmatted).

"Poe's Cat"

"No sooner had the reverberation of my blows sunk into silence than I was answered by a voice from within the tomb!--by a cry, at first muffled and broken, like the sobbing of a child, and then quickly swelling into one long, loud, and continuous scream, utterly anomalous and inhuman--a howl--a wailing shriek, half of horror and half of triumph, such as might have arisen only out of hell, conjointly from the throats of the damned in their agony and of the demons that exult in the damnation."
- Edgar Allan Poe's "The Black Cat"

Another piece created from charcoal, sharpie with attached jewelery, matted and framed in a 2" deep shadow box. "Poe's Cat" is 11"x14" and is also for in-person sale.
